Shopping Advice on Digital cameras: buying guide

September 30, 2009 By: edward Category: nikon lens

41T0QjwEkyL. SL160 Shopping Advice on Digital cameras: buying guide Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 AT-X DX AF Fisheye Super Wide-Angle Lens for Nikon Digital SLR The Tokina AT-X 107 DX is a full-frame fish-eye lens, field of view with dramatic curvature of field or “fish-eye” effect. With this lens an entire view or vista can be captured, wider than the human eye can see. The AT-X 107 opens an entirely new dimension of photography. The front element of the AT-X 107 DX has a newly formulated WR or “water repellent” optical coating on the glass. This coating makes marks such as spots left by water or finger-prints much easier to clean than standard multi-coating.The rear optical group of the lens contains 1 SD (Super-Low Dispersion) glass element to reduce the number of elements (pieces of glass) in the optical design in order to make the lens more compact, light-weight and faster focusing.
Customer Review: Nice lens for those with penchant for the creative
I’ve had a full-frame fisheye lens since the 1970s, starting with the Pentax Takumar 17mm in screw mount, followed by the Pentax in K-mount, and then finally, the Nikkor 16mm manual focus. So, when Tokina came out with this lens (which is actually the same as the Pentax, I’ve read in the same focal length), I had to have one for my new Nikon D40. The zoom feature is nice since you can vary the degree of the fisheye effect by backing it off a little from the widest focal length of 10mm. And, though it won’t auto-focus on the D40, there’s little need for precise focus with this lens due to the extreme depth of field at these focal lengths. Suprisingly, when I mounted the lens on my F100 film body, you naturally get vignetting, capturing the lens hood in the photo, but zoom it out a little and the vignetting disappears. So, with cropping, you could use this lens on a 35mm film body and create some interesting effects. Sharpness seems OK so far. I’m not a lab tech and I don’t buy lenses to photograph graph paper or anything else that absoluetly has to be razor sharp from corner to corner. If you just want a fun, creative, lens that guarantees that your photos will always have a different interpretation than your friends who take the same shot, this is the lens for you!
Customer Review: trustworthy
I was between this and the Nikon’s 10mm 2.8. I ended up getting the tokina because a friend had it and after seeing his pictures with it and after using it a bit on his camera (canon), i decided that 3.5-4.5 was fine for what i needed on a fisheye (actually one of my friends photos was on location, at night, with just one street light, and it looked awesome). The zoom is also nice to have.

The Mystical Zoom Effect Of Digital Cameras Explained In Plain English

September 29, 2009 By: edward Category: nikon lens

51NqkVrEVmL. SL160 The Mystical Zoom Effect Of Digital Cameras Explained In Plain English Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR [Vibration Reduction] DX Lens + Hoya 72mm UV Glass Filter + Lens Strap + 6-Piece Cleaning Kit - for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras including Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D80, D90, D200, D300 & D5000 Kit includes: 1) Nikon 18-200mm Lens; 2) Cleaning Kit; 3) CapKeeper; 4) Hoya 72mm UV Filter. ♦ Nikon 18-200mm includes: Caps; Hood; Pouch; Instructions; Nikon USA Warranty. ♦ The Nikon 18-200mm is a powerful 11.1x zoom lens designed for Nikon’s Digital SLRs. Equivalent to a 27mm wide-angle to 300mm telephoto zoom lens on a 35mm film camera, it may be the only lens you will ever need. This impressive zoom range is ideal for landscapes, group shots, portraits, sports, wildlife and nature photography. This versatile lens also has macro capability for wonderful close-ups of smaller objects such as flowers. The Nikon 18-200mm f3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX VR Lens has Vibration Reduction (VR) which provides sharper, blur-free pictures at shutter speeds as much as 4 stops slower than one could ordinarily handhold; a Silent Wave motor (AF-S) for fast and quiet autofocus operation; Extra-Low Dispersion glass (ED) to minimize chromatic aberrations for vibrant images with superb contrast and high resolution; Internal Focusing (IF) for faster autofocusing without changing the length of the lens thereby providing more balanced lens handling; and a non-Rotating front element which makes using circular polarizing filters far more convenient. ♦ Hoya UV Filters are made of highest quality optical glass and can be left on your lenses at all times — even when taking pictures. A filter prevents environmental damage to the delicate surface coatings of the lens; shields the front element from accidental scuffs and scratches; and in the event of impact, absorbs most of the force — which helps minimize damage to the lens’s filter threads. A UV filter enhances image quality by reducing the adverse effects of ultraviolet light which can cause outdoor photographs to appear hazy and indistinct. ♦ This Nikon Lens-plus-necessities Kit will help give you the amazing family pictures, portraits, vacation photos, sports, nature and travel pictures you’ve always wanted.

Traveling With A Digital Camera - What Do I Need To Know?

51SuVrqZJ6L. SL160 Traveling With A Digital Camera What Do I Need To Know? Opteka 500-1000mm High Definition Preset Telephoto Lens for Nikon D700, D300, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70, D60, D50, D40, D40X, D2HS, D2XS, & D3 Digital SLR Camera’s Customer Review: Good lense, but you have to have realistic expectations
I’m a slightly better than amateur photographer. I’ve taken the intro and intermediate classes in B & W 35mm and 120mm, and digital. I shoot with a D60. I bought this lense becuase I wanted to give myself options while shooting and was tired of being limited by the 18-55 and 55-200 stock lenses that came with my camera. I titled this “Good lense, but you have to have realistic expectations” for a reason. Its a good lense (3.5 stars), but you have to be realistic. A 200-500 Sigma F/2.8 will run you 29k. This lense is $109. Its well constructed, easy to assemble, easy to use (when using the lense with your DLSR, you’ve got to go old school and use it like a manual camera, set your camera to manual and adjust your settings for each shot. In camera metering won’t work. Neither will autofocus.) It does require additional light becuase the minimum F stop is 8. (Play with your ISO settings in camera, I was getting decent shots at dusk at F/16, 1/30 sec, 1600 ISO). Overall, it gives you options and expands your range (I was able to get detail on a couple on the other side of the Deleware River from my position). I would recommend it for people who want a decent stock lense but don’t want to put out the extra money.
Customer Review: no lens in camera
i brought this for my wifes nikon d40x and she puts it on the camera and it tell her there is no lens on the camera. Nice product but if any body has a solution to this problem let me know and post a review on here. thanks chris

Creative Ways To Use Your Digital Camera - Learn To Never Leave Home Without It

September 28, 2009 By: edward Category: nikon lens

51CVDBHYuKL. SL160 Creative Ways To Use Your Digital Camera Learn To Never Leave Home Without It Nikon 45mm f/2.8D ED PC-E Micro Nikkor Lens Perfect for architectural, nature, and commercial photography, the Nikon 45mm, f/2.8D lens lets you control the perspective more than with other lenses, with the ability to tilt, shift, and rotate while you shoot. The lens offers a wide shifting range–plus or minus 11.5mm–with a tilting range of plus or minus 8.5 degrees to provide exceptional perspective control. In addition, the lens revolves plus or minus 90 degrees in 30-degree increments, providing versatile tilt/shift shooting effects. As a result, you can enjoy all kinds of distorted perspectives and unique angles, giving your shots extra life.

The lens is built using Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements, which offer superior sharpness and color correction by effectively minimizing chromatic aberration. Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat, meanwhile, virtually eliminates internal reflections across a wide range of wavelengths to produce even greater image clarity. Other details include a high-performance Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC), which offers superior color performance and substantially reduced ghosting and flare; an auto-aperture control with an electromagnetic diaphragm (requires Nikon D3, D700, or D300 D-SLR camera); and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm that produces a more natural appearance for out-of-focus image elements.

Customer Review: Luxury for your lens…
Seems odd that Nikon kit lenses come with the soft pouches but my more expensive ones did not, ie a Nikon 12-24 and 50 1.8. Anyway I ordered this, it is gray, not black (I had assumed it was a image issue and was black). Basically the same as the black ones, padded on the bottom and with a more “refined” feel, and the logo is embossed instead of on a sewn tag.
