Camera Phone VS Digital Camera
Nikon 12-24mm f/4G ED IF Autofocus DX Nikkor Zoom Lens Enjoy a wider angle of view with the Nikon 12-24mm autofocus zoom lens, which is optimized for Nikon digital SLR cameras. The lens offers such features as a 2x zoom ratio, an exclusive Silent Wave Monitor that allows for accurate and quiet high-speed autofocusing, two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass elements for minimized chromatic aberration, and three aspherical lens elements for low distortion. Nikon’s D-type design, meanwhile, provides precise distant information for the flash and ambient light exposure processes. Perhaps the nicest feature, however, is the small image circle–the size of the image that’s projected by the lens onto the sensor–which produces an optimal image from the center to the edge to the corner. Other details include a variable angle of view from 99 degrees (at 12mm) to 61 degrees (at 24mm), a rounded diaphragm that makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural, and an 11.8-inch close focus distance throughout the zoom range. All Nikon lenses carry a five-year warranty.

Customer Review: A great wide angle
My first review for Amazon.com! So to cut to the chase, is this lens great? Was it worth the money? Short answer, yes! Since this lens is so expensive compared to third party lens (Tamron, Sigma, etc.) this lens needs to be great, 5 stars and it is. I use it with a Nikon D300, Photoshop Elements 7 and Epson Stylus inkjet printers. Through it’s full zoom range 12-24mm I couldn’t be happier in regards to resolution, color, contrast. I like the speed of f/4 as I try to avoid using flash. There are other reviewers that will talk about color fringing or distortion. I’m sure they know what they’re talking about but I just don’t see it in my photos. I must say that 12mm (which is 18mm 35mm film equivalent?) is a whole new world! I’m having fun! If you’ve been shooting film and have been waiting for digital to “catch up” I think it’s finally here. With the smaller format image sensor Nikon has had to come out with a whole new line of lens and I think they are outstanding. I think we are in a new golden age for optics. I never would have thought such a wide angle could be so distortion free. When I started out in 35mm photography, reviews would talk about pincushioning with 50mm lens! Can you believe it? And here is a 12mm ZOOM and I really don’t see any noticable distortion let alone something as obvious as pincushioning!
SO if you can afford it the Nikon is worth every penny (and thanks for the great pricing Amazon!) but if you can’t there are other less expensive choices with great specs that can meet your needs and where you can be just as creative! Enjoy!
Customer Review: Happy as a clam
I am building a lens collection for my Nikon D90. This lens is terrific. The sharpness and detail are very fine. It is well constructed, feels good, and is a pleasure to use. A fine piece of equipment for about the kind of money I expected. Good investment.

Camera Phone VS Digital Camera
Cell phones with cameras are everywhere nowadays. It really makes us thinking whether we now have a mobile phone with camera or a camera with telephone capability.
What’s up with mobiles?
The Sharp 903 cell phone now comes with a 3.2MP camera, the Sony Ericsson W800i and the N90 from Nokia Nseries both pitch in with 2.0MP (N90 has also got a Carl Zeiss lens and the autofocus). These phones have good enough quality for everyday pictures. And given the pace of development it is likely that the standard will only raise. Who would have thought that we would be talking of the music capabilities of the iPod phone, or anticipating the launch of the N91 from the Nokia Nseries with a 4 GB hard disc?
Why camera cell phone?
There are digital cameras capable of 10MP or more resolution, but who really needs pictures with such resolution? 2MP is enough for day to day usage and general printing purpose, and it ensures that images are not too large to be transferred to other devices. The picture quality of N90 from Nokia Nseries can match that of some lower end digital cameras. Cell phones can have files transferred the same way as digital cameras (cable, memory card and Bluetooth). The inclusion of MMS function in camera phones means that the images can also be directly sent to other phones and emails, which is not achievable with digital cameras. The major advantage of the camera cell phone over the digital camera is its immediate availability, the ability to capture that fleeting image without having to unzip a camera bag and fumble with settings. So you will not miss that precious moment again.
Professionals are up for the challenge
Five of the world’s leading photographers (Juergen Teller, Jiancheng Dong, Nick Waplington, Philip Lorca-DiCorcia and Raghu Rai) have taken up the challenge of camera cell phones. They have produced a stunning selection of professional images using the N90 from Nokia Nseries, see it yourself at www.seenew.com.
Are you up for the challenge?
If you think you’re pretty good with a camera, take a look at the competition that can also be found on the site. Submit your shots taken with camera phone, and you could be assisting one of the photographers on a commercial photo shoot. Other prizes include the N90 from Nokia Nseries, two return tickets to be flown anywhere in the world and your winning images to be pre-loaded to future Nokia Nseries handsets.
